Sweet Georgia Brown, a black female rising two years of age, proved herself a true Newfoundland the other day. Patricia Lapointe had taken Georgia and Myles -- a two-year-old gray male -- down to the North Saskatchewan river for a swim. It was a day in the 30 degree Celsius range and Pat and the dogs were getting rather warm. Myles swam a bit and Georgia amused herself chasing frogs along the river bank. Pat, wanting to cool off too, dove into the river and began swimming parallel to the river bank where Georgia was playing. Georgia lifted her head, saw Pat, and immediately dove in, swam to her, and began poking at her with her nose. Pat took hold of the fur of Georgia's ruff and was immediately towed ashore by a Newf who instinctively knew what to do with a swimmer.
